Kelvin has been working as an object conservator
for over twenty years and though accredited through the Furniture
Section of UKIC, he has specialised in the conservation of ship
models and carved wood. His work also includes gilding, conservation
of old boats (not waterlogged wood), bone/ivory work and fine non-ferrous
metalwork. In addition to conservation work Kelvin also takes on
commissions to build ship models and dioramas, mainly for museum/exhibition
display. His long experience of ship model conservation has given
him a great insight into how traditional models were built, he tend
to use these traditional techniques and materials rather than the
modern plastics now available and very popular with commercial modelmakers.
